Had the stir-fried yellow beef today and it was so flavorful and delicious! The beef was tender, well-seasoned, and had that authentic wok aroma. Service was friendly and the food came out hot and fresh. Definitely a spot I’d come back to again!

Ping’s Bistro has long been a gold standard for Hunan and Sichuan cuisine in the Bay Area. They’ve maintained impressively consistent quality over the years, which keeps us coming back. We’ve been dining here for many years, although we’ve reduced our visits since the restaurant introduced an 18% mandatory service fee, which effectively brings the total tip close to 20%. We’re happy to tip generously for good service, but prefer it to be discretionary rather than required. On this visit, we ordered Chongqing-style spicy chicken, mapo tofu with Angus beef, and smoked pork with mountain bamboo shoots. All dishes met our expectations—flavorful, well-executed, and very enjoyable. Overall, still a reliable spot for authentic, high-quality Chinese cuisine.

Total Score: 8.72 Bathroom: N/A Didn’t use the bathroom Customer Service: 3.75/5 Refilled waters and they were friendly Ambiance: 4/5 Well decorated but it feels more American steakhouse than Chinese lol Food: 5/5 Ugh every meat had such a deep rich smoky flavor. The pork inside the cauliflower was so heavenly. Wow: 0.5/1 Ughhh the pork was soooo juicy and deep in flavor I wish there was more Total Score = (CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW)/0.9

We came here for the second time to try their new mushrooms dishes. Last time when they first lauched the Yunnan serials food, we were surprised by the flavor and creativity however this time the new fried rice and steamed egg custard taste a bit flavorless. Don’t get me wrong because I still think they are good food but the mushrooms fragrance was not strong enough and didn’t seep into the other ingredients well enough. There is room for improvement. I still recommend the other Yunnan dishes like simmered rice and potatoes in copper pot, pork fat fried vegetable, mixed mushroom fry with cured meat and the seasonal drink.

The food is quite tasty and came pretty quickly, although the portion is on the small side. My main issue is the drinks situation. we all order drinks, and after we voiced concern about the drinks being way too sweet, they just brushed it off saying it’s just honey, without doing anything to rectify the situation(making us new ones etc) and still charge us the drinks. And the drinks were $13 a serving, which is not cheap and over priced tbh. I feel like I pay a lot for very sugary (bad) stuff that’s forced on me.
