Stopped in for early dinner, arrived before they opened. It's inside Satomi which is a Japanese restaurant. If you like you can order sushi or bento box. I decided to get tomahawk katsu, chicken kaarage for the kid, and my sister got salmon sashimi and grilled salmon bento. Food came out pretty quick. Chicken kaarage looked every bit as good as it tasted (good as is but I thought better with little lemon juice), good portion size too. Tomahawk katsu was juicy and tender and didn't need any sauce as it was delicious as is. My sister said the grilled salmon was cooked well and excellent, she said sashimi was good but wasn't cut evenly. The tempura kinda lacked though. The staff was very friendly and on top of refilling the water. Overall good food and good portions.

Katsu Factory in Fremont – 3.5 Star Review I recently visited Katsu Factory in Fremont with my family and had a solid but not mind-blowing experience. The restaurant aims to offer a slightly elevated take on Japanese-Hawaiian comfort food, and while they deliver on freshness with certain items, the value for money left me questioning whether it’s worth the premium over more casual spots. The Standout: Chef’s Choice Sashimi This was easily the best dish of the night. Everything was delicious and very fresh, with a generous variety of fish that gave us roughly 20 bites total. The selection was impressive, and the quality was noticeable. The white fish (not sure of the exact name) was the highlight — it had a beautiful milky, buttery freshness that really stood out. However, there were a few minor issues with consistency: the salmon slices were noticeably smaller than the tuna, and overall I wished the cuts were a bit larger for the price. It felt like they were stretching the portions slightly thin. Still, this was the one dish that felt truly elevated and made me say I’d happily return just for the sashimi. Cheese Katsu (My Daughter’s Dish) This was surprisingly tasty in a weirdly addictive way — the crispy exterior gave way to a gooey cheese center that my daughter enjoyed. However, the portion was disappointing: 3 croquettes cut in half, giving basically 6 bites. For the price, it didn’t feel fulfilling at all. It was more of a snack than a proper entrée. I still couldn’t identify exactly what kind of cheese they used, which added to the mysterious appeal, but the price-to-satisfaction ratio was off. Chicken Katsu (My Wife’s Dish) This was the most “meh” of the three. The portion size was almost identical to what you’d get at L&L Hawaiian, and honestly, the taste and style were extremely similar. It was perfectly fine — crispy panko, decent chicken — but completely unmemorable. Nothing about it justified paying more than the standard L&L version. Overall Thoughts & Value Katsu Factory feels like a nicer, slightly more refined version of the classic Hawaiian plate lunch spot, but the improvements are marginal for the increase in price. The sashimi is the clear winner and shows they can do quality seafood well. The katsu dishes, however, don’t differentiate themselves enough from cheaper alternatives like L&L to feel worth the upcharge. If you want a touch of elevated dining and don’t mind spending a bit more for fresher ingredients and nicer ambiance, this is a decent choice. If you’re trying to save money, I’d probably just go to L&L next time for very similar satisfaction at a lower price point. Final Rating: 3.5/5 stars The freshness of the sashimi keeps it from dropping lower, but the portion sizes and pricing on the katsu items hold it back from being a stronger recommendation. I’d go back selectively for the sashimi, but it’s not a regular spot for the whole family unless we’re craving something a step above the usual. Would I recommend it? Yes, with caveats. Go in with realistic expectations about portions and pricing.

Had the tomahawk katsu, which was a bit dry for my tastes but it was otherwise pretty good

The owner chef here is truly passionate about tonkatsu. I’ve tried many restaurants around San Jose, but honestly, this place is number one for me. I had the tomahawk-style tonkatsu and my wife ordered the king-size tonkatsu. The portions were huge, the pork was incredibly tender, and the breading was on another level. It was crispy, light, and really different from other places. We both finished everything on our plates without leaving a single bite. Also, all staffs were very kind and we were satisfied with their good service!
