Update: Not just another Irani chai cafe. This place is an absolute standout for the Chaat they serve. Whether it is Dahi sev puri, Papdi chaat , Bhel or Pani puri, this has to be one of the best, if not the best place in Fremont. Kush, the guy who runs the chaat cart is a serious master of the craft, and really cares about making you a plate of chaat based on how YOU like it. Tonight we had the chicken biryani which was delish, our usual Dahi sev puri which was perfect, and also tried the vegetable sandwich which, not surprisingly, was also a 10/10. The sandwich was also made by the chaat guy. Late nights in Fremont used to be about Irani chai and bun maska. Now they are all about the Chaat! —————————————————————————— Finally after months of anticipation, Karan Chai finally opened over the weekend. Tonight we dropped by to check out what they offer and whether this place deserves to be a late night hangout for chai with friends. Irani and Karak both chais are superb and hit the spot. The Osmania cookies (Indian biscuits) live up to the hype, and the samosas make a good accompaniment to the chai. Ambience is bright and inviting and seating is comfy. They’ve spaced it so that it doesn’t feel crowded even if there are folks at each table which is nice. I’ll have to go back to see how their biryani and other entrees area but for now I’m happy that this isn’t just another Indian cafe , but a good Irani chai experience.

I’d heard good things about this spot and finally gave it a try. The space is a decent size and the Irani Chai was ok comparable to other good places ive visited. However, the biscuit was out of this world! The samosas were tasty, and the Bhel Puri (chaat) was absolutely awesome. While the chicken biryani was just okay, ill definitely be back to explore more of the chaat menu and try the ginger n lemon tea.

Came to Karak Chai tonight after hearing about their recent opening and was really looking forward to finally trying it. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The pastry tasted stale, the lemon tea and Sulaimani chai were both extremely diluted and lacked flavor, and neither drink was served hot. For a place centered around chai, I expected fresh pastries and tea that was flavorful and piping hot. I understand new businesses go through growing pains, but based on this visit, there’s a lot of room for improvement. I hope they address these issues because I’d love to see them succeed, but I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.

Love this new chai place close to my house! The chai is amazing, so is the vibe. The best part is that it’s open till late at night and always bustling with people. I particularly love their karak chai, osmania biscuit (must try) and chaat. Kush makes amazing chaat! His pani puri and dahi puri chaat reminds me so much of home. Yunus has built a great spot in Fremont and I am so glad to be a valued customer of Karak Chai!

Karak Chai has a nice, cozy vibe, a comfortable place to sit and relax. The chai tastes really good, strong and full of flavor, just like back home. There are multiple food options like starters, biryani, sandwiches, desserts, etc. snacks especially pani poori tastes so good, perfect to hang out for a while.
