We stumbled upon Bongo’s during my husband’s ongoing quest to find the best Bengali food in the Bay Area. Bongo’s serves authentic Bangladeshi cuisine, which is very close in flavor to Bengali/Kolkata-style food—so we were excited to try it. Our first impression, honestly, wasn’t great. It’s a very small place with just a few tables—I wouldn’t even quite call it a full-fledged restaurant. But since it came highly recommended by several people, we decided to dine in anyway. We started with the fish chop (cutlet) and chicken Mughlai paratha, and both were amazing. The paratha does take a while to prepare, so be prepared to wait—but it’s absolutely worth it. Freshly made, rich, and indulgent. For the mains, I tried their Kachi Biryani (available only on Fridays), and my husband ordered the fish dopiaza with polao. The biryani was hands down the best dish of the night—succulent goat pieces, fragrant and flavorful rice, mildly spiced, and perfectly balanced. It was pure comfort food. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the fish curry as well and said it was very delicious and authentic. Overall, the food was amazing, and the service was good too. That said, given the limited space and setup, next time I would probably opt for takeout instead of dining in. If you’re craving authentic Bangladeshi/Bengali flavors in the Bay Area, Bongo’s is definitely worth trying—just adjust your expectations about the ambience and focus on the food.

We just had Bongo’s, and as a Bengali I can confidently say that this is one of the best Bengali food I have had in the US (including Bay Area and New York City). We order Fish Chops, Mughlai Paratha (Fluffy flatbread stuffed with minced chicken and eggs), Shorshe Ilish (Mustard Hilsa), Prawn Mali Curry, Radhaballavi (Puri bread stuffed with lentils), Matar Kachori (Puri bread stuffed with peas), alloo dum, and Misti Doi (Sweet Yoghurt). The flavours were authentic, fresh, and balanced, the service was quick and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant, and I’m sure I’ll visit this place frequently!

Their special menus are great. The Chinese combo plate is super delicious! The portion size is big (For photo purpose- couldn’t fit the whole in one plate!) Fish curry, bharta platter, country chicken combo, chicken roast platter during Eid, and Iftar platter during Ramadan are flavorful.

They serve authentic Bangladeshi cuisine. It was so heartfelt to find “shutki bhuna” (Dried fish) in the restaurant. The food was fresh and quality was topnotch. The staff members were also very friendly and hospitable. Would love to come back in the future.

The food here is always amazing. I went in with my wife last week, and we really enjoyed our dinner. Flavor was 5/5 and spice level is strong too, if you like spicy. The staff actually threw in a free rice which they recommended with one of our dishes- that paired really well together. I plan on coming again with a bigger group. The food here is authentic. You can never go wrong with that! Thank you Zakariah at Bongo's! I'll be back later. What we recommend: - Chicken Roast - Kala Bhuna (braised beef) - Kachi Biryani (served only on Fridays) - Beef Tehari for the little ones / kids who don't want really spicy
