Honestly Gary is awesome, tuned my Evo with 3 times from basics bolt ons pump gas to flex fuel then standalone flex fuel. All tunes were amazing, reliable and fast. For my first tune Gary was gracious enough to fly to Hawaii LOL, but the 2 E tunes I’ve had with him have been amazing. He also gave me such an amazing deal on a haltech package for my evo with guidance and help on how to wire everything in. Appreciate all the help and amazing work Gary has done. 100% found the tuner I’ll be going to forever.

I recently worked with Gary Bains to E-tune on my 2021 STi. Working with Gary was direct, and to the point. I sent over my info, Gary send me a base map and every revision after within a day. When I call, Gary answers himself, no middleman, and that’s the way it should be. I can’t imagine working with anyone else on something as important as a safe and reliable tune. Very knowledgeable, especially towards the VB WRX. Informed me about the issue and fix very professionally. Gary is a great guy to get to know and you can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does. I took my 2006 Evo 9 to another shop at first because I had a check engine light and the car was running rough. They ended up just kind of troubleshooting and having me replace different parts, and after spending a few hundred dollars it still wasn’t fixed. They eventually told me I should probably take it somewhere else. That’s when I found Bains Tuning, and honestly I wish I went there first. Gary took a look at the car and was able to actually diagnose the issue right away instead of guessing. He fixed the problem, got rid of the check engine light, and it ended up being way more straightforward (and cheaper) than what I went through before. After that, he also installed a few quality parts for me and tuned the car. The difference was night and day the car runs way better now and feels how it should have from the start. They’ve also been great to work with anytime I’ve had small issues come up, always quick to help and take care of things. Gary has also been super helpful with giving advice on tracking the car and just overall making sure everything is set up right. If you have an Evo or any performance car, I’d definitely recommend Bains Tuning.

I had an excellent experience at Bains Tuning with my VB WRX. Gary performed a custom 91 Octane Dyno Tune after installing a ZAGE G25-660 turbo, RAE I-pipe, and Tomioka oil cooler. The results are fantastic: 348 WHP / 348 WTQ with incredibly smooth power delivery. What impressed me most was Gary’s professionalism. When we discovered minor leaks from the new turbo and oil cooler, he was extremely responsible and fixed everything promptly. It’s rare to find a tuner who stands behind their work with such integrity. Highly recommend Bains Tuning for anyone on the VB platform looking for a knowledgeable and trustworthy shop in the Bay Area. Thanks, Gary!
