BART Track Work Affects Fremont and Warm Springs Service

The first shutdown weekend has ended, but Fremont and Warm Springs riders should prepare for four additional service interruptions.

BART suspended train service between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont on July 25 and 26 while crews conducted track work near Fremont Station.

The work involves replacing an interlocking, an important section of railway infrastructure that allows trains to move safely between different routes. BART says the project is part of its broader effort to improve system safety and reliability.

Additional shutdown weekends are scheduled for:

  • August 15–16
  • August 29–30
  • September 12–13
  • September 26–27

These dates remain subject to operational changes, so riders should check BART’s official service advisories before traveling.

How will riders travel during the shutdowns?

Free AC Transit buses will transport passengers between Union City, Fremont, and Warm Springs/South Fremont stations.

BART plans to offer direct buses between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont, along with buses that stop at Fremont Station. Fremont Station will remain open for bus service but will not have train service during the closures.

Travelers should allow approximately 30 to 40 additional minutes when passing through the affected area.

Green Line service will also be suspended on the track-work weekends. Orange Line trains will continue operating between Warm Springs/South Fremont and Berryessa/North San José, although schedules and late-night departures will be adjusted.

Planning a visit to Fremont during a shutdown

People traveling to Fremont businesses, restaurants, shopping centers, and community events should plan ahead.

Before leaving, check:

  • Current BART advisories
  • Updated departure times
  • Replacement-bus locations
  • Business hours
  • Parking or alternative transportation options

Local businesses near Fremont and Warm Springs BART stations may also want to update their websites and social pages when transportation disruptions could affect customers.

Accurate hours, directions, parking instructions, and service updates can help customers decide whether and how to visit.
